Disaster Management/Natural Disaster Cell

  • Disaster Management Act – 2005
    The Central Government enacted the Disaster Management Act in 2005. This Act provides legal significance to strengthening mechanisms to effectively tackle disasters. It emphasizes preparedness measures to reduce loss of life and property and prevent disasters. Additionally, the Act highlights the importance of training, awareness, and publicity to ensure that search and rescue operations are carried out swiftly and systematically during a disaster.

  • Akola District Disaster Management Plan
    Since Akola district is disaster-prone, especially flood-prone, a disaster management plan has been prepared. While formulating the plan, coordination was maintained with all members of the District Disaster Management Authority, government departments, public authorities, and voluntary organizations associated with disaster management.

  • Disaster Risk Reduction Measures
    The Disaster Management Cell undertakes preventive, during-disaster, and post-disaster measures to mitigate disaster risks.

  • Relief Measures by Government Authorities
    Relief assistance is provided as per the guidelines issued by the Revenue and Forest Department (Government Resolution dated March 27, 2023) for various disasters such as heavy rainfall, floods, lightning, and earthquakes.

  • Compensation for Losses
    In cases of loss of human life, livestock, house damage, or crop damage, financial assistance is provided as per the Revenue and Forest Department’s guidelines (Government Resolution dated March 27, 2023).

  • In addition, assistance is provided in response to man-made disasters.
  • Drought Management
    If a drought situation arises in the district, necessary measures are taken as per the Drought Management Code 2016.

  • Fodder shortage
    Assistance is also provided in response to odder shortage, which is a deficit of animal feed.

  • Water and Fodder Scarcity
    In case of water or fodder scarcity, necessary action is taken through this cell.

  • Farmer Suicide Cases
    A district-level committee is actively working on cases related to farmer suicides. Decisions regarding financial assistance are made in committee meetings, and the required support is provided accordingly.
