About AB PM-JAY
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) was launched on September 23, 2018. This scheme is a key component of India’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Origin:
PM-JAY is a part of the broader Ayushman Bharat initiative, which was established under the National Health Policy 2017.

Target Population:
This scheme aims to cover more than 12 crore families, which is approximately 55 crore individuals.
It prioritizes the poorest 40% of the population as determined by the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011.

Coverage and Benefits:
PM-JAY is recognized as the world’s largest health assurance scheme.
It provides annual health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
The scheme focuses on providing healthcare services to the most vulnerable sections of India’s population.

Features:
Cashless Access to Healthcare Services: Beneficiaries receive cashless healthcare services at the time of treatment, eliminating out-of-pocket expenses.
Reducing Catastrophic Health Expenditure: By covering significant medical costs, PM-JAY helps prevent more than 6 crore Indians annually from falling into poverty due to healthcare expenses.
Pre- and Post-Hospitalization Coverage: The scheme covers 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days of post-hospitalization expenses, including diagnostics and medicines.
No Restriction on Family Size or Age: PM-JAY imposes no restrictions on family size, age, or gender, ensuring inclusivity for all.
Coverage from Day One: All pre-existing medical conditions are covered from the first day of enrollment, ensuring timely treatment.
Comprehensive Service Package: AB PM-JAY offers extensive coverage for 1,949 medical procedures across 27 medical specialties, including general medicine, surgery, oncology, and cardiology.
Beneficiaries receive free medicines (including 15 days’ post-discharge medication), diagnostics (up to 3 days before hospitalization), meals, and accommodation as part of hospital services.
