Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 is an integrated nutrition support program launched by the Indian government to combat malnutrition among children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, primarily delivered through a network of upgraded Anganwadi centers and focused on improving nutrition delivery through a strategic shift in content and practices; essentially aiming to address gaps in existing nutrition programs and accelerate positive child development outcomes by providing supplementary nutrition, early childhood care and education, and promoting health and wellness practices.
Key points about Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0:
Focus areas:
Combating malnutrition in children (0-6 years), adolescent girls (14-18 years), pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
Delivery mechanism:
Primarily through Anganwadi centers, which are being upgraded to “Saksham Anganwadis” with improved infrastructure.
Nutrition support:
Includes supplementary nutrition programs providing fortified food grains like wheat, rice, and coarse grains.
Early childhood care and education:
Providing early childhood development activities and stimulation for children aged 0-6 years.
Convergence with other schemes:
Integrates components of existing schemes like Poshan Abhiyaan and the Scheme for Adolescent Girls.
