The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY-U)

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY-U) is a scheme that aims to provide housing for all in urban areas. The scheme was launched in 2015 and was to be implemented until 2022.

Benefits
• The scheme provides central assistance to eligible families and beneficiaries
• It includes slum redevelopment, affordable housing, and individual house construction
• It also includes a Global Housing Technology Challenge to promote sustainable construction

Eligibility
• The scheme covers all statutory towns as per the 2011 Census
• It covers Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories
• All eligible beneficiaries must have an Aadhaar or Aadhaar Virtual ID

Components
• In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR): Provides central assistance to redevelop slums
• Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP): Provides central assistance for affordable housing projects
• Beneficiary-led Individual House Construction/ Enhancement (BLC-N/ BLC-E): Provides central assistance for individual house construction

Implementation
The scheme is implemented by Urban Local Bodies, Development Authorities, and Housing Boards.
